Aspen Crossing
4′ x 5′ Oil Painting
Commissioned for Aspen Crossing, this painting captures a quiet moment in the midst of a busy, sun-filled Alberta day. Jason Thornhill, owner of Aspen Crossing, and his father, Bill, play the roles of conductor and engineer in this narrative, bringing their lifelong love of trains into the story.
Our on-site photoshoot allowed me to work directly from the location and develop the composition around the light, landscape, locomotive, and figures before returning to my studio to create the oil painting. Working this way gives me the freedom to thoughtfully shape each element of the scene around the story and atmosphere we want to convey.
This is the kind of commission I am passionate about creating. Whether a painting celebrates a family, a meaningful place, a shared passion, or a moment worth remembering, I enjoy collaborating with clients to discover what makes their story unique and translating it into an original work of art. Through careful attention to composition, light, setting, and gesture, I seek to create paintings that feel both personal and timeless—artwork that carries the significance of the story behind it while standing confidently as a work of art in its own right.
